Who We Are

VetMF ("we," "us," or "our") operates vetmf.com — a career network built exclusively for veterans transitioning to civilian careers. We connect veterans with insider contacts at companies, translate military experience into civilian language, and help veterans find roles that value their service.

We take your privacy seriously. Veterans trust us with sensitive professional information, and we treat that responsibility with the respect it deserves.

What We Collect

We collect information you provide directly when you create an account or use our platform:

  • Account info — name, email address, password (hashed, never stored in plain text)
  • Military service info — branch, MOS/AFSC/NEC code, rank, years of service, separation date. This is used to match you with relevant opportunities and translate your experience.
  • Professional info — headline, bio, target role, location, LinkedIn URL, skills, work experience, education
  • Profile photo — if you choose to upload one
  • Messages — conversations between users on the platform
  • Usage data — pages visited, features used, device type, browser. Used to improve the platform.

We do not collect Social Security Numbers, financial information, or copies of your DD-214.

How We Use Your Information

  • Display your profile to other verified members of the platform
  • Match you with relevant job listings, insiders at target companies, and veteran organizations
  • Enable messaging between veterans and company contacts
  • Send you platform notifications (new messages, connections, job matches)
  • Improve and maintain the platform
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Ever.

Who Can See Your Profile

Your profile is visible to other registered members of VetMF. If you mark yourself as open to work or opt into the Insider Network, your profile may also be visible to verified company accounts on the platform.

You can control your visibility settings at any time from your profile settings. Setting "Open to Work" to off will hide your profile from company searches.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a secure, encrypted database hosted on Neon (PostgreSQL). All connections to our platform use HTTPS/TLS encryption. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt before storage — we cannot see your password.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. However, no system is completely immune to breaches. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password.

Cookies

We use session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. If you use "Sign in with LinkedIn," LinkedIn may set their own cookies governed by their privacy policy.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the platform. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data shared with them:

  • Vercel — hosting and deployment
  • Neon — database storage (PostgreSQL)
  • Stripe — payment processing for voluntary contributions. When you contribute, your payment information is handled directly by Stripe. VetMF never stores your card details.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — AI-powered features including career assessment, resume parsing, MOS translation, and VA benefits guidance. When you use these tools, your inputs (resume text, questions, MOS codes) are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic's data use is governed by their privacy policy. We do not send your name, email, or account identifiers to Anthropic.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery (connection requests, notifications, password resets)
  • LinkedIn — optional OAuth login (only if you choose "Sign in with LinkedIn")

We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to operate its function.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data — email us and we'll send you everything we have
  • Correct inaccurate data — update it directly in your profile settings
  • Delete your account and all associated data — use the self-service account deletion page for immediate deletion, or email us and we'll process it within 7 days
  • Opt out of marketing emails — use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or email privacy@vetmf.com. You will still receive security-critical emails (password resets, account verification).

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to Know — you may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you
  • Right to Delete — you may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale — VetMF does not sell your personal information to third parties. This right is therefore satisfied by default.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@vetmf.com. We will respond within 45 days as required by law.

Children's Privacy

VetMF is intended for adults (18+) who have served in the U.S. military or work with veteran communities. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. We'll notify you by email and update the "Last updated" date above for any material changes. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance.
